Non-Selective Admissions Policy
The SABIS® Educational System™ is highly academically-oriented without being highly selective. The criterion for acceptance in a class is academic attainment, not age. Although age acts as a limiting factor, it is possible to find up to a three-year age range in the same class. In general, any student willing to learn is accepted.
Grade Level Placement & Diagnostic Assessments
There are no academic requirements for acceptance into Kindergarten (3 to 5 years of age). Prospective students at these levels are interviewed; they must be toilet-trained and able to speak and follow simple instructions in either English or Spanish.
All other older prospective students take diagnostic assesments in the core subjects of English, Spanish and mathematics. These assessments help to determine if the student has attained the minimum expected standard for each subject. The school then makes final placement decisions. Various options are available to help bring a student to the required level. These options can include attending summer school or taking extra classes in a subject. Special academic support is taken very seriously by the school.
Admissions Decisions
Admissions decisions are made after careful evaluation of each student. Results of diagnostic assessments and previous school records are considered on a case-by-case basis. Additional criteria for admission include motivation, social and emotional development, willingness to work hard, and the ability of SABIS® International School - Costa Verde to accommodate the needs of the student applicant.
